So, we’re looking at a week out from the SCOTUS decision. There’s a ton of speculation and chatter about the legality of it, and the encroachment of state rights. But what does it really matter? How are you physically affected? Chances are, you’re not. Perhaps you are, maybe now you’ve got the right to be married, and it’ll be legally recognized.

I’ll start by saying, I support a traditional marriage. I don’t hate non-traditional marriages. What would I define as a traditional marriage? Glad you (I) asked.  I’d define a traditional marriage as a marriage between a man and a woman, devoid of divorce and adultery.

Let’s focus on the last part. I think people focus too much on the “homosexual” part of marriage, but we fail to speak out against divorce and adultery. In the recent news – we’ve seen a high-profile pastor step down from his post, due to “inappropriate” behavior ( AKA Adultery). We can get into semantics here, with Biblical qualifications for divorce and what not, but in this age – the majority of divorce we see is “irreconcilable differences.” There are definitely reasons for divorce, and I have some close friends who needed a divorce, or they’d be literally dead. Moving on…

This blog isn’t about divorce, or adultery. It’s more about the war Christians think is necessary on homosexuality and the government; while continuing to have a speck in their eye that’s the porn they look at, the people they fight to protect, and the anger they harbor. We’re threatening to leave the country, to fight against the government, to act in defiance of what’s been governed; all the while standing up for a dude who has molested several family members and members of friend’s families?

Do I believe in repentance and forgiveness? Absolutely. It’s the only way I’ll ever stand a chance of getting to see my Lord. I would identify my self as Paul would – “the chief of sinners.” 1 Timothy 1:15 I’m definitely no less sinful than anyone else, and I’d be foolish to preach hatred and condemnation at someone who is of homosexual inclination, without doing the same for those who cheat, lie, steal, and don’t believe in God.   (Tell me when hate and condemnation has ever worked in breaking walls down for the Gospel…Spoiler alert:  it hasn’t.)

The Christian double standard, is what I’m talking about. We should show as much fervor and hatred for ALL sin, we do for homosexuality.  “But, being gay ain’t natural.” – in the most southern accent you can imagine.   Explain to me, when sin has ever not been natural, in our lives?  Last time I checked, we’re prone to wander, and prone to defy God.  (Yes, homosexuality, according to the Bible – is sinful.  But no more sinful or shameful than peeping at porn, lusting after another person’s spouse, or killing your neighbor.) For the record, I’m not justifying or giving a pass for homosexual inclinations, rather putting things in perspective.

Again, I want to state my beliefs about marriage. I believe marriage, in order to be Biblical needs to be between a man and a woman.

I’d like to remind everyone where we stand before God.

  • We’re all sinners, and there is no one righteous, not one.
  • We all fall short of the Glory of God. We miss the mark.
  • We all need Jesus – because He’s the only way to heaven.
  • “No man can come to the Father, but by me.”
  • While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
  • We are dead. Christ came to make us alive.

So, what is our response to people with different sinful inclinations than ours? I think Jesus said it best, and I won’t need to say anything beyond it.   When confronted by the religious leaders of his day, a woman was placed before Him. She was caught in adultery. They had hoped He’d condemn her. Long story short – He does not. He tells her to leave, with the command to “sin no more.”

If Jesus saw fit to give grace to sinners then…If Jesus saw fit to reach out and pull us from death, then I’m sure we can get off our high horse and love others well; to love others into the arms of Christ.

Lord bless this country as we seek to honor you. Bless our lives and give us opportunities to bring others into the fold. Bless the work of our hands as we sow the seed and foster the growth for Your harvest.

Please, Christians, love others well.
